Nutrition
At Evolution Personal Training we understand that a big part of staying motivated to stick to a healthy eating plan comes down to the strength of the support you receive.
A key part of well-being and fitness is a balanced diet. We hear so much these days about "miracle" diets claiming quick, easy results. The truth is that it is only by eating a balanced, nutritious diet linked to our lifestyle that we can achieve our optimal weight. We have to burn more than we consume to lose weight - and we have to eat only as many calories as we burn to maintain our weight...and that's the bottom line.
Good nutrition combined with regular exercise - easy isn't it!
Through food diaries, regular reviews and monitoring we will support you as you establish a healthy regime with what you eat and when you eat.
Each Evolution personal trainer has nutritional qualifications, however a dedicated Evolution nutritional therapist can help you optimise and fine tune your dietary needs.
Our Therapist
Kathy's interest in health and nutrition has developed over many years. Having trained as an aerobics instructor with the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) in 1998, she then went on to study reflexology at the renowned Oxford School of Reflexology. It was during this time that she was introduced to the principles of nutritional therapy, and her interest in nutritive medicine was fuelled.
After subsequently applying these principles to her own diet and feeling the vast benefits to her health, Kathy decided to retrain as a nutritional therapist. She successfully completed the three year professional course at the Institute of Optimum Nutrition.
Since her graduation Kathy has continued to progress her professional knowledge and has recently become a registered Foresight practitioner. She is also a member of BANT (British Association for Nutritional Therapy) the regulatory body for nutritional therapists.
Kathy has recently completed a specialist course dedicated to sports nutrition which enables Evolution clients to maximise sports performance whether it be on a local football field or in the Olympic athletics arena.
Nutritional Therapy
Nutritional therapy uses food and specifically tailored dietary supplements to treat the underlying causes of disease. By correcting nutritional deficiencies and eliminating harmful substances from the diet, the body is able to function efficiently and restore balance and vitality.
The therapy uses a holistic approach to health, which recognizes that no two people are the same. Everyone has different nutritional requirements, depending on their age, gender, lifestyle and biological make-up. These factors are all taken in to account when an individual nutritional program is designed.
What conditions can be treated by nutritional therapy?
Virtually every condition can be improved through client commitment to a personalized nutritional program. By correcting the imbalances that lead to diseased states, rather than just masking the symptoms of disease, nutritional therapy provides the body with all the key nutrients required to boost immunity and restore health naturally.
Whether you have a chronic health condition, or simply a concern about your weight or energy levels, nutritional therapy can benefit you. Following a healthy eating plan will also reduce the risk of disease occurring in the future, so why leave it to chance?
Fertility/Pregnancy Nutrition Program
Our modern day diets are often over-processed and refined, and as a result they lack the vital nutrients needed to support healthy functioning of the body. Sub-optimum nutrition affects all bodily functions, however one of the first elements of our health to be affected are our fertility levels. Alarmingly, unexplained infertility and clinical ‘sub-fertility’ are becoming increasingly commonplace in the U.K
Kathy is registered with Foresight (the Association for the promotion of preconceptual care), and has worked with many couples to enhance their fertility and increase their likelihood of conceiving, through better diet and lifestyle choices. On this program a personalized dietary plan is created which should ideally be followed for several months prior to conception and then during the full term of the pregnancy. Regular monitoring of the program ensures that both mother and baby are receiving the best possible nutrition at all times.
Nutritional therapy has been proven to be a highly effective way to treat sub-fertility and increase a couples chances of conceiving naturally. Continuing with the nutritional program once conception has taken place helps to minimize the risk of complications during pregnancy, and ensure a healthy, happy baby!
Consultations
Prior to the first consultation every new client must fill out a detailed health, diet and lifestyle questionnaire, and return it at least 48 hours before the consultation is due to take place. The form can either be posted or faxed to you, or you can download a copy from this site.
During the initial consultation your individual health concerns will be discussed at length and a diet and supplement program will be designed to address any dietary deficiencies found and restore optimum health. (Some clinical investigations may also be recommended at this point, such as food intolerance testing, hormone profiling or hair mineral analysis.) This consultation lasts approximately 1 hour.
A follow-up consultation is advised 4-6 weeks later, and lasts approximately 45 minutes. During this time your progress will be monitored, and changes can be made to your program to reflect any changes in your health status and symptoms.
